Hoot Owl Holler
Ok to get up with the chickens but don't sleep with the fishes
Hey there! Thanks for dropping by. Take a look around
and enjoy!
I hadn’t named any of my chickens until i named this guy on a whim. When i decided i would keep him for breeding purposes I named him Mr Speckles. The name is sort of inspired by the mouse named Mr. Jingles in the movie “The Green Mile” Don’t think Mr Speckles is destined to be a circus chicken but He has a better destiny than most of his brethren. They are in a cold place right now.
Those words are how people describe a roosters crow in english, spanish, and german. My roosters started crowing this week and they don’t sound like any of those. They do need practice. They sound more like Urka-ur-ur sung with a hoarse throat. I am sure they will get it eventually,.
Woke up this morning at 8am. My C-pap had stopped. Looked around and discovered the electricity was out. The land to the north of me has been sold and the new owner is going to build a house there. My electrical service comes in from the pole under the ground. They had to dig up the underground run and tie on a line for the new nieghbor. I went back to sleep or at least tried to. My UPS made a complaining chirp about once a minute that it was on battery power. Finally I got up and went to feed the chickens. Of course the garage door opener wasn’t working so had to raise the door by hand to get some feed out of the garage. Then when I got to the chicken house I discovered that the power had been cut before their door to the run had opened for the day. No way to get around that without causing more problems later on so I left it alone. The power finally came back on after noon. I went around resetting timers and clocks and getting this web page back on the net. Do you think we have become too dependant on the electron? I am now wondering how many solar panels it would take to run all these gizmos. Several is my guess.
P.S. in case you don’t remember the answer to the old riddle above… He was in the dark.
It’s been so brutally hot that I haven’t taken any pictures lately. The chickens are still growing and doing well, though how they do that in this heat is a miracle.
Hopefully we will get some heat relief soon.
That chicken run is still sort of a scary place.
